  1. Not having a twitter I have a difficult time understanding people’s passion for the website. I can see how this website when paired with facebook are just the ultimate digital media mediums because these websites allow people to view celebrite’s lives and become involved with things that they are passionate about. Twitter can be especially useful for public relation professionals because they can update publics and the twitter population about what is going on. Plus twitter has also become a marketers dream with the free advertising, especially from celebrities. This is a good ISC connection! (ISC Connections 1, Sabrina Simpson; October 7, 2010)
  2.  You have some very interesting thoughts on socail media, but I have to ask, isn’t that the point of social media to project your thoughts and ideas onto others? Without mediums like Twitter and Facebook getting the word out about your veiws on thing is limited. Wasn’t Facebook created for students to connect, then it expanded to the rest of the world? Have Twitter and Facebook at your fingertip is the Public Relations’ dream.  (Impuse Control and Social Media, Lebanexican; November 24, 2010)
  3.  This issue with how Lebron expressed to the world his decision to move to Miami is what I think has dimished his reputation. With that said I think the new Nike Commerical, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdtejCR413c, shows how he has struggled with the issues surrounding his decision. I think this commerical has really helped turn around his public image because he has admitted his faults and even though he is an icon in basketball he is human overall. (ISC Conntection: LeBron James, Josh Kane; November 28, 2010)
  4. That is great the you have found a passion for tweeting, some major communication firm is going to scoop you up for your social media skills. I also found that Twitter is more professional than Facebook and it is much easier to sent to messages for others to grab onto. I have stopped tweeting as frequently. (Lab Twitter, Michael Fleming; November 30, 2010)
  5. Your example for Cantrill’s Six Laws of Public Opinion is very good because many people feel this way about the BP oil spill. After learning about crisis image resotration I think BP has implemented a good plan to get themselves back into good stands with those affected by the oil spill. During the crisis BP made large mistakes but their steps post spill has started for some Americans to see their company in a slightly better light. (Chapter 4 Reading Notes, Mitch Ellis; November 30, 2010)
  6. What a great post, I am not an Organizational Comm major, but a Business, Finiance, Major. My ideal job is to work with the government doing finiance. My minor is Corporate Communicate, which brought me to my Organizational Comm class. I think all business majors should be taking Org Comm because as you said it works with miscommunication, but miscommunication is the major fault of all leaders. Leaders need to communicate effectively and effiecently. It also shows hows managment style/decisions affect the organization as a whole. I am glad you have found your knitch. Good Luck is the rest of your studies! (Organizational Communication, Nash Albacea; November 30, 2010)
  7. I am a student and Queens University of Charlotte, I am currently taking a course in Integrated Strategic Communication. In this class we are responsible for reading our textbook and blogging reading notes as well as other topics. It seems you are after a similiar goal, to keep blogging and learning about public relations. If you want to get some more information about public relations check out clacashire123.wordpress.com. Hopefully it can help. (Strategic and Research Knowledge in PR, Adam Denison; November 30, 2010)
  8. I agree with you about how image is everything- good or bad. It seems that Americans have put professional athletes on a pedistool, which in a sense allows NFL players to ge away with simple crimes like DUI. With thier god like status NFL palyers have the mind set that they are able to do whatever the please and a jurry of thier peer, common folk, will be less inclined to see thier favorite NFL start miss a season to be behind bars. I think for change to come society need to change.  From a PR point of view I think the NFL needs to get better crisis management, players need to be aware that everything they say and do are watched. When players are out with weapons or caught drunk driving thier crisis management team need to have quick and better plans.  (Thugs Who Score Goals?, Anastasia; November 30, 2010)
  9. It seems that social media has invaded our lives and is here to stay for good.  You cannot speak to a teen without Facebook somehow invaiding the conversation.   Googling and checking Facebook are some of my favoirte pastimes.  I would agree that Facebook is competition for Google espically since Facebook will now be an e-mail adress.  Soon social media, like Facebook and Twitter, will kill search engines.  A once prominante search engine, like Yahoo, has fallen into the deep depths.  Facebook will at one point be as good as or better than Google. (Google vs Facebook; November 30, 2010)
  10. I would agree with you that public relations are all of the things mentioned above, however, it seems you have forgotten about public relations practices such as sending out press releases. With public image is a key component of public relations a more important component with public image is does this image relate to what the company’s vision and mission statements are. You have also stated that public relation professionals are recruited from journalist, before this may have been the case, but now public relation professionals can recruited from maketing, adversting, or fresh from college. (Public Relations: Key of Sucess, Newscommunication; December 1, 2010)
  11. It may seem that having celebrities tweet for companies is wrong, but some regular person with over 1,000 followings may also be used from companies to write corpotate tweets. What is the difference from have a regulare person have a sponsored tweet over a celebrity? The answer is that when a celeb says something about a product or company the readers are more likely to check out the product or company. I think that this marketing angle can be cheap but it is effective.  (Celeb ad’s on Twitter and why I don’t like them, Kate Ottavio; December 1, 2010)
  12. I think you make a good point about Public Relations being the primary focus of the class.  But I think with some of the labs that we have gone into other areas of ISC.  I personally think that the course should be ISC because of the variety it offers, but with that being said I think that maybe a more broad text could be chosen.  I think the primary reason you felt that the course was so public relation based was that the name of the text used is Public Relations. (ISC Topic 3-Course Name, Sam Cook; December 7, 2010)
  13. Living in a country with the First Amendment is something that we all take full advantage of.  Imagine living in a country like China where you are not able to speak freely about the government.  That really blows my mind.  I think your views on freedom of speech are very true.  If you are working for a company there are specific rules you must abide by.  If you are working for the public relations department you really need to be up to date about the company policy regarding what can be said and what should not.  The text in chapter 20 has some good examples of companies  not saying enough or saying too much. (Freedom of Speech, Lindsey Taggart; December 7, 2010)
  14. Your chapter 2 and 3 analyses are very good.  You have covered most the important facts of the chapters.  I think it is very interesting how mom and pop stores are not almost all gone, which is a shame because it can put a big damper on the common entrepreneur.  At some point I want to open my own business and I think it will be very hard to compete with big corporations, especially since they are everywhere.   Although since these corporations have emerged new jobs have also emerged, this is great for the current economy.  (Chapter 2&3, Zach Dornan; December 7, 2010)
  15. Ethics are a tricky thing.  I think that many reporters need a little review on this topic because there are so many cases of reporters posting things that are hurting to so many people.   Your example of Prince Harry is a great example, as well as the ISC Topic about Shirley Sherrod.  Both of these people have been removed from the situation regarding the topic of article/blog.   It is great the most Public Relation firms follow the PRSA, this way you can get a much better feel as to how the general public will regard what you are putting out there.  If you are following your personal code of ethics, someone out there in your profession will probably get offended, but if everyone in your profession are following the same ethics the chances of that go way down. (Chapter 6 & 7, Lizzie Lithgow; December 7, 2010)
  16. While tweeting, facebook, and text are great the only issue you come across a lot is what you actually said and the meaning behind it.  I’m sure when he wrote this he was upset and there is probably a lot of context behind what is meant.  Regardless, people need to start being smarter when it comes to religion and politics because some people cannot handle speaking about these topics in publics.  I understand us, as Americans have a right to freedom of speech but as someone watched around the country, you will find yourself on a slippery slope.  A Raven’s player recently tweeting during the game from the locker room was fined.  It will be interesting to see what happens. ( Connection 7. Steven Johnson Crisis Management, Brittany Philip; December 7, 2010)
  17. The court of public opinion can be really harsh.  Using Cantril’s Law of Public Opinion makes it a little less harsh.  What is so difficult about public opinion is that it is so hard to change.  I know once I make my mind about a person or a topic it is very hard to change, not that I am stubborn.  I try hard to give the opposite view a good listening to.  With valid reason and logical points I may switch me feelings on it, but that is very difficult.  Human nature is to argue using emotions, not logic.   Look at the troops, who booed Cathy Griffin off the stage for poking fun at Bristol Palin. (“the unknwn god to which moderns burn incense,” LA Loschiavo; Demember 7, 2010)
  18. LeBron James’ return to Cleveland this first year would be something to talk about.  I think people need to stop being so critical about James.  What would be the difference from a business person leaving a company they built up to go to a corporation that the person could make more money at or be in charge of expanding the corporation?  Nothing, while James is a professional athlete and in the public eye, it is his trade and he needs to make logical business decision to get him ahead in his trade.  This trend is occurring in all aspects of the business world, there is no more company loyalty anymore and it is okay for business people to move around. (Lebrons Return to Cleveland, Jimmy Baker; December 7, 2010)
  19. Communication is a very broad topic, but without it everything would be impossible.  Your point about reader’s bias is very interesting.  It is something I do not think about very often but makes sense.  After learning about media richness the medium used to communicate is very important.  When delivering a message the medium used is important to regard.  If the message is regarding some sort of task the best way to deliver it is face-to-face.  If you were to use email you would need to put in every detail to avoid misunderstanding. (Chapter 3, Preston Jahn; December 7, 2010)
  20. These images are very moving.  The opening of the Pearl Harbor Visiting Center is something that has not been publicized.  I think that it is great they are opening this center it will further help remember those whose lives were lost on this day.  I am an ISC student in college, the course is predominately about public relations which is why I bring up the fact that this event has not been publicized.  I would think that the opening of the center would make national news. (Hawaii Remembers Pearl Harbor, Pacific Island Ranger; December 7, 2010)
